Newsletter - Journey Series 1
Here we go. Here goes the newsletters. My name is Mohammed Fatehi, I am the Co-founder of this company we call, al-Nujoom. There will be many different series in the newsletters, sneak peaks of our quarterly collection drops and everything in between. I am starting us off by starting our journey series. The why, what and how of al-Nujoom. The hope is, by sharing al-Nujoom’s story of our growth, you can do something like this for yourself.
So lets just start at the beginning. In the beginning when God created the heavens and the Earth; just kidding, not that beginning, al-Nujoom’s beginning. We first started as just as two friends who had the skills to make something unique, just as many other businesses start. A thing we learned was a good business has one of two key aspects; either solving a problem that exists in the world, or adding something to the world no one has seen before. Then we realized there was a huge gap in the market for hand-written Arabic calligraphy products, and yes we still do everything hand-written; none of that computer generated stuff, and that checked off one of the key aspects. So anyways, we saw the gap in the market and then we realized with the skills we already have, we can not only make money off of it but we can add this to (in my opinion, the most beautiful artform) things people use everyday. That way the art gets cherished in other ways than admiring pieces on the walls of masjids and homes.
So that is sort of the why and a little of the what of what al-Nujoom is and the motivation to start this company. My vision for the company is to create new ideas, new designs that incorporate Islamic design or Arabic calligraphy. But not only that, its to also be able to cultivate a huge community of people who appreciate this art and its history by giving them the opportunity to bring it into their everyday life.
There are definitely more details I am leaving out in this post but only because this is the introduction. Next time I send an update it’ll prolly be about those skills we used, and how you could use yours to do something. Talk soon Insha’allah.
